The 1966 Chevrolet El Camino, a car-truck hybrid, was restyled with the same sheet metal as the Chevelle, but with its own exclusive front grille and rear bed. It offered a range of powerful engine options, including the newly introduced 396 cu in "big block" V8, cementing its place in the muscle car era. For the 1966 model year, Chevrolet produced 34,724 El Caminos. Of these, 24,337 were the Custom trim, and 10,387 were the base model.
